The United States Naval Academy is ranked #6 in National Liberal Arts Colleges in the Best Colleges 2023 edition. This article contains related information on the Naval Academy Acceptance Rate and its admission requirements. Read through!

The Naval Academy, is the United States’ naval service’s undergraduate institution. She educates young men and women to become professional officers of competence, character, and compassion in the United States Navy.

The Navy and Marine Corps are two branches of the military. Midshipmen on active service in the United States are Naval Academy students.

They spend four years at the school, earning bachelor’s degrees and commissions as ensigns in the Navy or second lieutenants in the Marine Corps. Graduates of the Naval Academy must serve in the Navy or Marine Corps for at least five years.

Before we discuss the Naval Academy acceptance rate, let’s know this school’s history.

What is the Naval Academy?

The United States Naval Institution (USNA, Annapolis, or simply Navy) is a federal service academy in Maryland, near Annapolis.

It is the second oldest of the five United States military academies and trains officers for commissioning mainly into the United States Navy and United States Marine Corps. It was founded on October 10, 1845, under Secretary of the Navy George Bancroft.

The 338-acre (137-hectare) campus is in Anne Arundel County, 33 miles (53 kilometers) east of Washington, D.C., and 26 miles (42 kilometers) southeast of Baltimore, on the old grounds of Fort Severn at the confluence of the Severn River and the Chesapeake Bay.

Naval Academy History

The whole campus (dubbed “the Yard” by insiders) is a National Historic Landmark, and many historic landmarks, buildings, and monuments may be found there.

It took the place of the Philadelphia Naval Asylum, which operated as the first United States Naval Academy from 1838 until 1845, when the Naval Academy in Annapolis was established.

Candidates for admission must apply to the academy directly and get a nomination, which is normally from a member of Congress. Officers-in-training with the rank of midshipman are the students.

The Navy pays for midshipmen’s tuition in return for an active duty service commitment after graduation. Each summer, some 1,200 “plebes” (an acronym of the Ancient Roman term plebeian) enroll in the academy’s demanding Plebe Summer program.

Approximately 1,000 midshipmen complete their training. They commissioned graduates as ensigns in the Navy or second lieutenants in the Marine Corps, although a limited proportion of them may also cross-commission as officers in other US forces and other countries’ services.

USNA Admissions

The acceptance rate at USNA is 10%, entering rigorous and competitive. Candidates must be U.S. citizens, between the ages of 17 and 23, unmarried, not pregnant, have no dependents, and be of good moral character as of July 1 of the year they would attend the school.

They usually need applicants to be in the top 40% of their class.

To apply to the Academy, an allowed source must nominate students.

The amount of applicant interest, academic GPA, standardized test scores, rigor of the secondary school report, letters of reference, application essay, character, class rank, extracurricular activities, and the interview are all factors that selecting authorities consider.

The student’s geographical location and skill are also crucial secondary considerations. Alumni relationships, racial status, volunteer and job experience, and whether a student is a first-generation student are all less important variables.

Candidates must be medically certified and pass a physical fitness test. When applying to USNA, a candidate should emphasize academic and extracurricular accomplishments while displaying interest in a career in the naval service.

USNA Acceptance Rate

The United States’ Naval Academy acceptance rate is the first thing to look at if you want to get in. This shows how competitive the school is and how serious they are about their criteria.

The United States Naval Academy has an admittance rate of 8.5 percent. Only 9 out of every 100 applications are accepted.

This shows that the school is quite selective. It’s critical to meet their GPA and SAT/ACT standards in order to go past their initial round of filters and show your academic preparedness. Your chances of getting in are almost nil if you don’t match their requirements.

After you’ve cleared this obstacle, you’ll need to impress United States Naval Academy application reviewers with your extracurricular activities, essays, and letters of reference. Below is a table containing the data for acceptance rates.

United States Naval Academy GPA Requirements

Many schools stipulate a minimum GPA requirement, however this is often the bare minimum to submit an application without being rejected right away.

The only GPA criterion that counts is the one that will allow you to have a realistic chance of getting in. We do this by looking at the school’s current students’ average GPA.

(Most colleges use a weighted GPA of 4.0, however some report an unweighted GPA.) The average GPA for this institution was not publicly reported, but we calculated it using data fr
om over 1,000 schools.)

The United States Naval Academy expects you to have a 3.66 GPA and be above average in your high school class. At the very least, you’ll need a mix of A’s and B’s, with more A’s than B’s.

You may make up for a low GPA by taking more difficult subjects, such as AP or IB. This shows that you can manage more challenging academics than the ordinary high school student.

Even more, when you’re a sophomore or senior, changing your GPA in time for college applications is difficult. You’ll need a better SAT or ACT score to compensate if your GPA is at or below the school average of 3.66.

This will enable you to compete successfully against candidates with better GPAs.

Naval Academy Tuition

The Naval Academy does not charge tuition. The Navy covers the whole cost of tuition, lodging and board, as well as medical and dental coverage for Naval Academy midshipmen. This implies that every student at the Naval Academy receives a full scholarship for five years of active duty service after graduation.
