This shows that the school is quite selective. It’s critical to meet their GPA and SAT/ACT standards in order to go past their initial round of filters and show your academic preparedness. Your chances of getting in are almost nil if you don’t match their requirements.

However, after you’ve cleared this obstacle, you’ll need to wow Washington University in St. Louis application reviewers with your extracurricular activities, essays, and letters of reference. We’ll go through this in more detail further down.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. How Prestigious Is the Washington University In St. Louis?

Ans: “Washington U. Offers a world class bachelor of anything degree. The prestige still does not account for its academic rating. It still is a hard sell to non-academics. That is why it still has to maintain St. Louis as its location. For prestige, go elsewhere.”

2. Would WashU Accept Me?

Ans: “The question should rather be what you would study there and then if you can afford it. I recommend not taking student loans and instead trying to get a menial part time job on a field you are interested and see if it suits you first.

If you do well, not only you will be earning money and not spending, but they might even pay for your education so you can advance in their ranks.”

3. Should I go to UCLA or WashU?

Ans: “Wa-Zoo and WashU are two completely different animals. Wa-zoo probably does not score well as an alternative to UCLA.

WashU does not score that well either. An old line private college, WashU has a $50,000 tuition and not much to recommend it outside of Saint Louis.

As you can see, many people do not even know it is in St. Louis and not in Washington State or Washington D.C. The City of Saint Louis is a social and economic has-been comparable to Detroit.”

Related FAQs on WashU Acceptance Rate

4. Why Is Washington University in St. Louis so Highly Ranked?

Ans: “When I was deciding on which school to attend I also grappled with this question. I have a lot of family internationally and none were aware of what WashU was or how well it was ranked.

Unfortunately, this influences many international students because they assume that because it is not known internationally, it isn’t a great school.

However, this is not the case at all. WashU is consistently ranked one of the best undergraduate business schools in the country(top 10 during my tenure at the school) and ranked one of the best universities(usually in the mid teens).”

5. Lived in St. Louis, MO?

Ans: “Weather is variable, but I’d say Fall is definitely the best time of year. Despite what others say, Spring is only so-so and really just a milder extension of Winter (but with more trees and flowers).

Then it turns blazing hot around the first week of June. And Winters themselves are rather mild but are dreary (we get more salt than snow!)…”

6. How Much Does WashU Look at Freshman Grades?

Ans: “They look at it as grades. Your overall GPA is the primary area of interest for most schools and if it is positively trending, that is also great news. Don’t stress about it too much. Do your best and relax. It’ll be ok. You can get a great education anywhere.”

FAQs on Grades

7. Can an Unweighted B Student Get Into a WashU?

Ans: “My answer is “Yes, but…”

Backgroud: I was in that position applying to Wash U and I was accepted right off. However I had other shit going on.

Note: Everything after this is my opinion. I have never worked in admissions, but this answer is synthesized from what I’ve done, the stories of the people around me at Wash U, and reading opinions of Admin counsels from other competitive colleges (usually Harvard/Yale cause those be the most publicized).”

Historical FAQs about St. Louis

8. BFA from Washington University in St. Louis (1991)?

Ans: “I can only think of one and it really isn’t terrible. I thoroughly enjoyed my time there and it was the single most transformative experience of my life, but compared to similar schools it has lower name recognition.

While this didn’t bother me, it may others. If what you want is a world class education around other hardworking, gifted students Wash U is a great choice. I know of none of my friends who dont feel fortunate to have gone there.”

9. Should I Go to WUSTL Law School or USC Law School?

Ans: “Both are very highly regarded academically and in the job market. However, geographic location affects job offers.

USC obviously places very well in California, but also places well on the East Coast, especially Washington DC and New York.

Wash U. places throughout the country – in fact, the last time I did the research, it placed more equally in the various job markets than any other law school in the country. This means it will offer relatively fewer jobs in California and New York, but more jobs in Atlanta, Houston, and Chicago.”

10. Is Washington University in St. Louis Good to Study Pre-Med?

Ans: “yes, Washington University is rated in the top 10 annually for it’s medical school and research centers. The region benefits from excellent medical trainees, Professors and teaching physicians. The best physicians, technicians and researchers staff the Barnes in many specialties.”
